| A little about Us

Becca & Nick Van Liere here! We started Rise in 2015 in our little apartment downtown GR, attending Vegan GR pop-ups and fulfilling custom orders from our home. We transitioned into a shared kitchen space, and then our own brick and mortar shop in 2019. We are so grateful to be celebrating 7 years here on the West Side, no place we’d rather be!

Nick’s got a background in environmental studies, and Becca has a degree in social work, and somehow — here we are, owning and operating a bakery! Our passions still drive us — Nick using his enviro mind to create sustainable practices (see also: veganism!), while Becca uses her social work background to connect with the community, staff, and beyond. We’ve got 2 kids, a dog, 2 business, (and a partridge and a pear tree.) Safe to say life is full, but we wouldn’t have it any other way (usually lol).

| A little about Rise

We’re an allergen friendly bakery and coffee shop located on the West Side of Grand Rapids. Everything (yes, everything!) that we make is vegan, gluten free, soy free, dye free, and free from artificial flavors and sweeteners. We have a full espresso, coffee, and tea menu — and as of January 2026 we are proudly brewing Lantern Coffee!

Daily, we have a variety of pastries (donuts, muffins, scones, bagels and more), as well as cake, cupcakes, tarts, and other desserts. Check out our “Order” tab to place a custom order for cake, donuts, and more, or a catering order for the office!
